Family Crossing Bagmati River at Milche

Milche was the site of EcoSystems' first completed TarPul. Villagers in this area crossed the Bagmati using an unsafe tween which was attached to a tree at one end (see photos on our site of a 'tween'). The tree fell over, and the VDC Chairman made the long trip to Kathmandu to request the installation of a TarPul. Some final adjustments were made to the bridge design, construction began, and within two months the Milche TarPul was up and running. The inauguration included a speech made by every political party, garlands and flowers, a large feast, and even the performance of an original song written in honor of the event.

Update: The Milche TarPul was broken during a huge flood in July 2002. Unfortunately due to its location and recent political unrest, Ecosystems has not been able to re-establish contact with Milche yet.
