The
TarPul at Birtadeurali facilitates between 2-300 trips per day
across the Sun Koshi, one of Nepal's largest rivers. This bridge
provides the only convenient crossing for residents of 10 VDCs
on the east bank, and allows villagers access to otherwise inaccessible
roads and facilities. Built with funds provided by the German
Embassy, this bridge has made as many as 1000 trips in one day
during festival and wedding times. The bridge is also used for
transporting countless goods to and from villages in the area.
update:
The TarPul at Birtadeurali has now been replaced by a suspension
bridge. The TarPul was being over-used: During the wedding season,
1,000 people had to cross the river in one day!
