Between Shova and Pokhara VDCs of Rukum District
across the Sani Veri Khola

Length:
150 meters
With the generous help of the Community Support Program
and a small contribution by the local VDCs, a TarPul at Tarbara was
completed in June 2005. The Sani Veri is one of Nepal's major bodies
of water, fed by snow melt or by the monsoon, and remains dangerous
to cross throughout the year. During the monsoon, the river swells
to exceptionally dangerous levels. In this location the river banks
are steep and high, affording few safe construction and access sites.
The first photo shows the traditional crossing, a sling hanging from
a wooden yoke that slides on home-made ropes. The finished bridge
is more than 50 meters above the river.
