Nawal Parasi District (2 sites) Fours sites in Nawalparasi were surveyed for a TarPul. The German Embassy sponsored the construction of a TarPul at Gothdanda in February 2003, and the Poverty Alleviation Program is supporting a bridge at Jaldevighat. The other two sites in this region are still in need of funding. Nawalparasi District houses primarily Magar and Tamang farming communities. Besides helping children go to school, these bridges will improve the productivity of farming and agriculture, thereby increasing the household income of many poor families in Nawalparasi. Site: Over the Sand River at Chharchhare: 49m; 2 wire system Chharchhare is on the Sand Khola, between Bulingtar and Kadajheri VDCs of Nawalparasi District. The Sand Khola is a monsoon stream, typical of the foothills, which creates a serious seasonal barrier to much needed schooling and health care, and limits access to markets and farm land for the local residents. An estimated 8-10 students and 30-40 other villagers would use this crossing daily during the monsoon season. Site: Ladi River at Chilyar: 41m; 2 wire system Like the other sites in Nawalparasi, the bridge at Chilyar will provide access to schooling, markets, and medical facilities for villagers living in the area. An estimated 10-15 villagers would use this crossing to reach much needed facilities each day during the monsoon. |
