Manang District (3 Sites)

Three sites have been surveyed for a TarPul in the Manang District. These bridges will provide much needed access to fundamental facilities such as health care and schooling to the people of Manang Districts. All projects are in need of funding.

Site: Across the Marsyangdi River at Latamanang: 80, 2 wire system

This site is located within the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) area. The village of Latamanang is on the main Annapurna Circuit trail, and tourist traffic through the area is high during the trekking season. A hot spring lies on the other side of the Marsyangdi, which local people use frequently and feel is medicinally beneficial. A bridge at this site will allow safe access to the hot springs, and commercial development of the attractive tourist resource. At least 100 round trips per day are expected at this crossing.

Site: At Karche Manang across the Thorang River: 61 m, 2 wire system

The main trail that comes up the Marsyangdi River splits at Tanki Manang. The left branch goes toward Khangsar Village and Tilicho Lake, while the right branch serves as a main trail toward Muktinath. With the proposed TarPul, tourists and local villagers wishing to go from one of these trail branches to the other can reduce their walking time by 3-4 hours. During the trekking season, 30-40 tourists plus their crews will pass this way every day, while local villagers anticipate 5-10 crossings per day.

Site: Crossing the Marsyangdi River at Koto, Chame VDC (76 mtrs), 2 wire system

Thanchowk Village in Chame VDC is located on the right bank of the mighty Marsyangdi River. Unfortunately, much of the villagers' land, including good pasture for their animals, lies on the opposite bank. The Koto TarPul will enable the residents of this area to tend their animals with greater productivity and increased safety. The bridge at Koto would also eliminate the time-consuming and wasteful rebuilding of the cantilevered bridge which washes away with every monsoon. An estimated 40-50 passengers would use this crossing everyday, year round.
